Song of the Dolphin Boy

by Elizabeth Laird

A moving adventure about the impact of plastic pollution on our seas, and the campaigning power of friendship. Finn has always been different, and in the tiny fishing village of Stromhead he sticks out like a sore thumb.

Always told to keep away from the water, he’s felt that something was missing until one day he dives in and finds that, swimming with the dolphins, he feels completely at home. But his new friends are in danger of being injured by the rubbish that floats out into the water – and now a supermarket is going to release thousands of balloons that could drift out to sea and cause even more damage.

Desperate to help the dolphins, Finn goes to the Lighthouse Crew, a group of children who have always left Finn out. Will they be able to set aside their differences to save the dolphins? And what will Finn discover about his past along the way?

I loved this book so much! I love how at first the characters were mean to the boy but now they are including him at the end. I loved how at the end you thought the balloons were going to be released but at the last minute they didn’t, it really got me nervous about what was going to happen. My favourite characters were the lighthouse crew and the boy named Finn. I would recommend this to everyone! Chloe Mortimer.

I cannot wait to see how the campaigning power of friendship develops! If only one of the children will finish the book first and let their teacher have a copy 🙂 Mr R.

I really liked the book because it makes you understand how much pollution is in the ocean and how many animals are endanger. I really liked listening to the characters becoming good friends as the boy wasn’t included in lighthouse crew at the start. My favourite character was Finn because of how much he cared for the dolphins.

Song of the Dolphin Boy is a very interesting story. I found it was a bit boring at first but then it got better. I loved the characters and their personalities. I hope Elizabeth Laird ( the author ) does a sequel. LS

I really enjoyed this book! I like how (as well as being a great story) it makes people aware of plastic pollution. It is very inspirational and has made me think about how my actions are affecting the wildlife and sea creatures. The author, Elizabeth Laird, should be very proud because she is extremely talented to be able to write a fictional book which can change peoples actions all over the world. Hopefully, in the future many more people will read this book and change, to help work towards stopping plastic pollution! I think this book is a great way… Read more »

I liked this book a lot and it had a fantastic story line like others have said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The environment is so important, if our generation doesn’t help change it, it will get worse and worse until all the animals in the world die, in fact, 1/3 of fish in England have plastic in them so we need to do something about it because many animals are becoming extinct and that’s humans’ fault! What did animals ever do to us? We need to save the planet, if we don’t, who will? There isn’t another planet we can destroy, if we destroy this one, that’s it! Animals have lives too, who gave us authority to kill them?

Sorry about my little rant there, but I’m really passionate about the environment!

This book was AMAZING!!! I think it shows a great example of what happens to sea life when humans throw away plastic. My favourite part throughout the whole book would have to be when Finn finally makes friends with the other characters. Personally, i really enjoyed the book and i couldn’t put it down! I would recommend this book to people who love animals (underwater creatures in particular) and also people who might want to help the environment too. Sophie
