Spellbinding – the name given to Cumbria’s Primary Schools Book Award – sees thousands of pupils each year read their way through a shortlist of ten books chosen by Cumbria County Council’s Library Services for Schools team.
The award creates enthusiasm and excitement about books and widens reading choices by giving children the opportunity to discover new authors and try different genres. Pupils post comments via the website about the books they have been reading and vote for their favourite.
Each child receives a passport with a different book related sticker to collect every time they finish a book. Spellbinding is advertised in the autumn term, pupils read as many books as they can from the shortlist during the Spring Term and voting takes place after Easter.
